Finally, a politician with a pulse. No canned responses, no bumper sticker rhetoric. A candidate with real answers, not focus group tested responses. Rick Lazio, a Long Island Congressman, takes on a political wall in the form of NY Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

Hmmmm…. an attorney general ahead in the polls in one of the bluest of blue states. Sound familiar? Massachussetts anyone?

Cuomo plays a modern day Eliot Ness. Chasing down the bonuses of TARP funded banks and insurance companies acquiring accolades from the suffering middle class who benefit from this NOT AT ALL.

To me it is pure politics. They knew about the contracts and the bonuses when they granted the TARP funds. This feigned outrage is just to gain trust and support from the public.

Mr. Lazio says that he doesn’t like the way Cuomo pops his head for precious PR moments, then retreats back into his foxhole and lets supporters tout his Robin Hood like actions except the rich stay rich and the poor get poorer. Mr. Lazio says that he is fed up like much of the working class of New York. We need someone to run this state like a business and not some social engineering experiment. You want to work? You should be afforded the chance to. The harder you work, the larger your reward should be. I asked him at point blank “What are you prepared to do if you become governor regarding Ground Zero?” In no uncertain terms he said he would clear the clutter and force the levers of power to get this project in gear and finish this job that should have been completed years ago.

That is refreshing to hear especially since I’m a union construction man and building that site at full capacity means thousands of jobs. If you look all around ground zero everything is completely built up. Across the street a year ago was a parking lot and now is the Headquarters of Goldman Sachs. I should know we built it. Also in the area is the Winter Garden which was a smocking ruin after the 911 attacks and 6 months later was totally repaired and pristine. These were private funded projects as opposed to WTC but that’s for another article.

I asked Mr. Lazio where he stood on the MMA sport and would he support bringing it to N.Y. He thoughtfully said he would study the issue and get back to me because he didn’t know enough about it to make an educated decision. You know something a politician actually admitting he doesn’t know something in itself is very telling. This simple Q and A reveals to me he’s a truthful guy. He didn’t try and dodge the question or spin it he simply asked for time to research it and he would get back to me.

This fella is no empty suit I found him to be down to earth with a great disposition. Brimming beneath the surface lurks a man on a mission. He doesn’t come out and tell you how sharp he is you just know it. He doesn’t tell you how transparent he’s going to be you just trust him. He makes you feel like he’s in it with you and not on the other side trying to pretend “He gets it” or “He feels your pain” no he doesn’t need any of those empty phrases that the media clamors for he seems like a real guy who like myself loves this town and treasures this country

I would highly recommend you see the whole interview with Mr. Lazio on my blog bluecollarcorner.com or you can catch it on youtube.com and search andybluecollar.
